Workshop

Groundwater is a fundamental natural resource which ensure social prosperity and development. It is the main source of supply to meet the water demands worldwide, while at the same time both irrigation and industrial needs are covered.

The protection of groundwater quality is a priority and of utmost importance to ensure a sustainable supply of water. Preventing groundwater pollution is the best measure to protect it. Water wells and springs protection zones are a key tool in preventing groundwater reserves from being contaminated. Defining protection zones requires the use of modern tools and techniques utilizing a range of data.

It is critical important to delineate the protection zones of wells and springs in order to preserve sustainable water supply. Hence the organization committee decide to organize this workshop. The delineation of protection zones is mandatory according to the current legislation, while in many cases it will be necessary to change land uses within the protection zones of water wells and springs. Therefore, modern techniques and reliable tools must be applied to define protection zones.

The workshop is organized in conjunction with the 12th Hydrogeological Conference of Greece. All participants of the conference can follow the workshop both in the conference and online.
